Second Genius Hour: Update

This week I made roti the bread part of the meal. It is basically a more practical version of naan bread. It turned out really good. It was only made out of 2 ingredients water and flour. However you can add flax or chia seeds to the dough to make it healthier. I made this one by myself because I have made it in the past several times and it is quite easy. You use this bread to dip into currys or daals and it tastes very delicous!

Second Genius Hour: Update

This week, I made daal with my grandma. Daal is basically lentil soup that has a lot of flavor, it is a more of an everyday dish, for example butter chicken (my favourite) is more for celebrations and big occasions but daal is a more common. The most simple way of explaining how to make it is to let the lentils cook in a slow cooker with water then if you take out about a cup of water it will be the perfect amount. After, you add the rest of the spices, unfortunately my grandma has a few secret ingredients that I can’t share. Although, she showed me a few spices from India and as well as lemon juice. Overall it turned out delicious but my grandma said that I was bad luck because it became to thin, I mean I thought it was good but I guess she’s the expert.

Second Genius Hour: Update

These pictures show the diffrents stations the top one shows where I cooked them and the bottom one shows where I acctually made them. From left to right; the first container is plain flour so you dough balls dont stick to the counter, then that is the stuffing you put in between the two flattened piecs of dough, it is made of potatoes, herbs and spices. And on the far right is the dough made of flour and water. A prontha, which is what I’m making, is kind of a really flat dumpling or naan bread with stuffing in the inside and they are delicious, but cooked with a lot of butter. They turned out really good but just a little dry so I used my mom and grandma as experts so they did help me but I did most of it!
