Genius Hour: Update

I started experimenting with different scents using the steam method it was way harder than I had imagined and no matter what I tried in the end there would be no smell. Although this put a wrench in my plans I was determined to make a perfume so I tried the oil method I already had lavender, peppermint and eucalyptus scents so i tried to make a scent out of those. Now here’s the thing it didn’t smell bad it just wasn’t the scent I was going for so, I am going to try more mixing as well as buy more scents. I also need to find someone to contact for my project so I am going to do that right now. See you next week!

Genius Hour: Update

Hi everyone, this genius hour project I can’t work with my perfumes in class so instead I will be contacting my expert; bath and body works about tips and tricks. So I was checking the internet for thier email but I couldn’t find one that wasn’t for complaints. Although this was a slight bump in the road for me I thought of other ways to contact someone and my teacher gave me an advice to contact a small buisness instead because there is a higher chance they will respond so now I am looking for a shop to contact, and once I do that I will start working on the mixing scents part and let you guys know what happens next week.

Genius Hour Plan

This term I will be learning how to make diffrent scented perfumes. To acheive this goal I am going to try many diffrent stratigies which you can see in my perivious blog post. I am definetly going to need essential oil scents, herbs, water, flowers, fruit and much more just to make the scents right. I am also going to need to boil water to catch the scents just right as well as just nice bottles and herb sticks in the perfume to make it look nice. I have never done anything like this before although I don’t think that I will need help with much at all because most of the process other than boiling the water is just experimenting to get better scents.

Some steps that will be needed are:

  1. Taking a trip to bath and body works to ask in more depth about thier perfumes in general
  2. Buying the companys product and test and compare
  3. Using trial and error on humans

Genius Hour: Introduction

Hello my name is Inaiya I am 13 years old and welcome to my blog. I live in edmonton and I am in grade 8. I am a cancer but I have been told I have more scorpio traits. I enjoy playing volleyball and basketball for fun. My grandmother was always a big cook which influenced me as I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen.

For my first project I have decided to make my own perfume. I am going to try to do around 3 or 4 scents (maybe 2 if it is trickier). I’m going to try a herb scent which will probably be lavender, a citrus scent like orange, grapefruit or lemon ect. And also a floral scent like rose petals or japenese cherry blossoms ect. I am also going to try 2 ways to make them. With an oil base by finding a carrier oil as well as a base note a middle note and a top note (which are basically 3 scents to achive the overall scent). This sounds kind of confusing but I will explain later on how to do it. I am going to try this one first as it is easier because you don’t need to extract your own scent. The next one I’m going to try is a steam base which is boiling the fruit or herb or flower and grabbing the steam and letting it turn into water vapor. Also if I have time I will mix them together by boiling 2 things at a time. I hope this gave some info about my project and tune in every week for an update.

Thank you.
